The Blue Peter Book Awards - Blog Tour - Tony Robinson's Weird World of Wonders

We're avid fans of Blue Peter in this house (Bel gets to put it on the Sky Planner) so when I got asked by Booktrust if I wanted to join in with the awards blog tour I jumped at the chance. The enormously popular and influential Blue Peter Book Awards have been recognizing and celebrating the best authors, the most creative illustrators and the greatest reads for children since 2000. The Blue Peter Book Awards 2014 celebrate children's books published in the last year in two categories: the Best Story and the Best Book with Facts. The award is managed by Booktrust and you can read all about the shortlist and judges here

I then squealed a lot when I got the author I'd asked for. As you can see from the title the BNM household got given Tony Robinson himself. Not only is he a great actor (Neb knows all of Blackadder backwards) and comedian but he's also written 16 children books on our favourite topic history.

The book that is on the Blue Peter shortlist is

Bel is currently studying World War 2 in school and after I showed her the extract I realised it would be a book that she would love. The book covers everything you need to know about World War 2 including fun facts like how useful mashed potato is, what it takes to be a spy and takes you on a headlong gallop through time, pointing out all the most important, funny, strange, amazing, entertaining, smelly and disgusting bits about World War II!

It looks cool and a great way for kids to learn to love history. In fact, the series of books has its own web page that we've already been on to find out more.

Do you too want to share our love with your kids. Well, dear reader, I'm very lucky to be able (with the help of Booktrust) to give a signed copy of Tony Robinson’s Weird World of Wonders: WWII to one of you lucky readers.
